Mrs. DeTroye


Kentcie DeTroye grew up in North Carolina. She moved to Lynchburg to attend Liberty University, and graduated in 2018 with a degree in Elementary Education. After graduation, she completed her student teaching at TES, and was soon hired on to teach 5th grade! She has taught 5th grade at TES for 3 years and is starting her 2nd year in 3rd grade. Mrs. DeTroye has been married to her husband Matt for 2 years. When she isn’t teaching, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, playing volleyball, traveling, cooking, and adventuring with her husband! Mrs. DeTroye is also an avid Green Bay Packers fan and loves anything Disney. She is excited to teach 3rd grade this year and get to know her students. 


Ms. Dorner


Melissa Dorner was born in Pennsylvania, where she lived until graduating high school. After high school, she moved to North Carolina where she attended the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. In 2010, she earned a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in history. While at UNCW, Melissa competed on the equestrian team. After graduation, Melissa started her teaching career in North Carolina. Melissa has been teaching for 11 years in 2nd and 3rd grade. Melissa moved from Southport, NC to Lynchburg, VA to be closer to family. She loves teaching and is excited to start her fifth year at Tomahawk Elementary School. Melissa has two kitty cats named Maggie and Lilly. In her spare time, Melissa enjoys reading, running, riding horses, and spending time with family. Melissa is looking forward to getting to know her students and to having a fantastic year. 


Mrs. Nason


Jerilyn Nason grew up in New Jersey.   She attended Liberty University where she studied elementary education and graduated in 2005.  Then she attended the University of Maine where she earned her Master's Degree in special education in 2009.  She previously taught in special education grades K-5, along with teaching 4th grade the past four years.  She has been married to her husband Garrett for 18 years.  They have three children; a son Avery who is 13 and twins Katelyn and Colton who are 9 years old.  They enjoy swimming, jeep rides, playing outside, hiking, and camping together. 


Miss Rigler


Brooke Rigler was born in Arizona and moved to Altavista, Virginia when she was three years old. After turning 17, her family moved back to Arizona. Brooke then went on to study at Liberty University and got her degree in elementary education. Brooke is also the B-team volleyball coach at Brookville Middle School. She also coaches a local travel volleyball team (Central Virginia Volleyball). This year will be her fifth year teaching. One year she taught online at the Campbell County Online Learning Academy. Outside of teaching, she enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, and watching TV shows. 


Mrs. Hawkins

Holly Hawkins grew up in Tucson, Arizona and came out to Lynchburg, VA to go to Liberty University. She married a Virginia boy after graduation and stayed in Lynchburg! Holly has been teaching for 32 years and all but three of those years have been here at Tomahawk. Currently she teaches 3rd grade, but started her first 7 years teaching in 2nd grade. She also spent 3 years teaching in a small, private school with Hispanic students in a 1st and 2nd grade combination class in Washington. Holly has a husband, two grown children, and a schnauzer. She loves learning how to do new things and teaching children! She also enjoys running, boating, kayaking, fishing, cooking, traveling, crafting, and pickleball. Recently, she has been learning how to grow and use herbs for cooking. She is a lover of dark chocolate and the smell of peppermint.   

Ms. Ewing

I grew up in Lynchburg, VA and graduated from Brookville High School in 2014. After high school I attended Bluefield University where I graduated with my degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2017. I came back to Lynchburg after college and have taught for the past 6 years. This is my first year teaching 3rd grade and my first year teaching at Tomahawk. I am so excited to be a BEE again! Some of my favorite things include the color teal, japanese food, traveling and going on cruises, and spending time with my family and friends!
